Last week, PeopleSoft Users from across the nation took over the “Windy City” of Chicago, IL for Quest International Users Groups‘ PeopleSoft RECONNECT Conference 2017. Team Elire set up camp for the week at Booth #405. The conference started with an exciting and informative lunch & learn with Senior Director of Product Strategy – PeopleSoft, Marc Weintraub, and Vice President, PeopleSoft Strategy & Product Management, Rebekah Jackson. The Senior Oracle Executives provided an overview of the roadmap for PeopleSoft, as well as engaged users to provide feedback on where they were at with the future of their PeopleSoft solution and what their current pain points entailed.
The evening entailed the PeopleSoft Super Session and Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall. Team Elire welcomed clients and PeopleSoft Users to Booth 405 to engage with our experts, test out our new Strategic Roadmap Quiz, and learn more about our remaining five sessions.
The team wrapped up Day One with a Chicago staple – Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish pizza!
Day Two started bright and early with Team Elire’s, “Pain in Your Bank Recon? PUM 18 has your Automated Solutions.” This session, also by Managing Consultant, Logan Wacker, focused on the expanded bank reconciliation capabilities with PeopleSoft PUM 18 that helps to maximize match rates, minimize manual use intervention, and reduce customizations. Not only was this deep dive informative, it was selected as a “Best of Reconnect Presentation” and will be presented as a complimentary Quest webinar on September 27th! Register here.
Elire Director of Sales, John Scott, and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage NA Vice President -Treasury Operations, Janet Division, facilitated the PeopleSoft Treasury SIG Meeting, connecting Treasury Users to discuss hot topics, share best practices, and network.
The afternoon was action packed as well with Elire’s remaining two presentations. “Masterminding PeopleSoft Bank Reconciliations,” presented by Elire Partner, Carlos Conde, was a Case Study on Security Finance Corporation’s automation of their bank reconciliation processes. The session focused on how SFC’s PeopleSoft reconciliation problems were solved, allowing them to smoothly and efficiently reconcile 670,000+ check items and 36,000+ on a monthly basis.
Elire’s final presentation of the conference was a case study on St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s successful PeopleSoft 9.2 Cash Management Implementation. Elire Managing Consultant, Tenzin Tsering, demonstrated the new features implemented including Bank SetId redesign, historical payment conversion, and AP integration into Financial Gateway to produce ACH payments.
Day two ended with a dinner celebrating our valued Clients and Partners at Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse.
The last day of RECONNECT wrapped up with a PeopleSoft Question & Answer session and final Exhibition Hours. Thank you to all who stopped by the Booth and entered to win our various prizes – including a YETI Cooler and Beats Earphones!

Many organizations continue to utilize a fragmented, manual, paper-intensive method for their Accounts Payable processes. This week has been packed full of updates in the PeopleSoft World – mainly with PeopleTools 8.56 being released for general availability. Below is an overview of the updates and enhancements available – for more information reference the Cumulative Feature Overview Tool.
PeopleTools 8.56 Enhancements and New Features:
User Interface Enhancements (0:24)
Classic Plus – Allows re-worked classic pages to have an appearance similar to that of fluid pages. Classic Plus allows a more seamless transition, especially where both types of pages exist. Selecting “Fluid like theme for Classic” within the System Branding page will display Classic pages with Fluid-like styling.
Personalization of Fluid Homepages on Smartphones – Users can now personalize home pages using the “Personalize Homepage” link, including adding tiles, re-arranging tiles, and removing tiles on their smartphone.
Portal Technology Enhancements (3:45)
Unified Navigation – Any PeopleSoft System can serve as the designated portal system within a cluster with unified navigation.
Contextual Fluid Dashboards – Application Developers are now allowed to design a fluid dashboard in which user-specified or fixed content values determine the content of the tiles displayed on the dashboard.
Event Mapping – The event mapping feature delivered in 8.55 has been enhanced with the Event Mapping References page to assess the impact of when an application class has been modified or upgraded. In addition, two additional events have been added, the Activate event at the page level, and the FieldChange event at the component record field level. Event mapping also allows more than one custom application class to be associated with a single PeopleCode event.
Test Framework Enhancements (5:47)
Support for Testing with Charts – Charts are now a pivotal feature for simplified analytics within PeopleSoft Applications. You can now record test scripts with JET charts using PeopleSoft Test Framework and validate during playback.
Query-Based Testing – Data can now be used from the PeopleSoft Query Results. There is no requirement to record new test cases if the test script utilizes the dataloader step type.
Update Manager Enhancements (6:48)
Improved Analytics – PeopleTools has added the ability to differentiate the delivered changes between maintenance and bugs to provide a better understanding of the health of the system, and evaluate what features you currently have and can adopt. Four new pivot grids have been added and include Enhancements by Image, Enhancements by Product, Enhancements by Minimum Tools, and Applied Bugs by Image Lag.
Analytics Driven Change Package Definitions – Point and click functionality from the analytics now allows you to create the change package definitions and apply the change package directly within the analytics. Enhancements by Image analytics allows you to see the percentage of enhancements you have applied for each Image. You can also add additional un-applied enhancements to a change package. The Enhancements by Minimum Tools release analytic shows the enhancements available based on PeopleTools release for the targeted environment. Applied Bugs by Image Lag analytic shows the difference between when changes are delivered versus when they are applied. Drill down on specific pivot grids are reformatted to provide more information and provide an analytic driven interface to create the change package.
Change Package Definition Merge – An easier way to select and add content to change package definitions. Users are now able to merge contents from multiple packages into one package to make maintenance changes to a system.
Enhanced Customization Repository – Customization repository has been expanded to support the customization impact of ADS Customized Objects and Managed Objects.
File Processing Enhancements (16:18)
Cloud Attachments – As of PeopleTools 8.56, Oracle Document Cloud is accepted as a Cloud Storage Provider using the Adminster Cloud Provider Page.
PeopleSoft Search Framework for Enhancements (17:05)
New Search Engine – Elasticsearch – In PeopleTools 8.56 – SES and Verity are no longer supported, and are replaced by Elasticsearch.
Using Clusters for Elasticsearch – Elasticsearch uses distributed architecture and is built to be scalable using clusters. High availability enables PeopleSoft Search Framework to provide a fail over mechanism
Processing Attachments – Attachment processing is enhanced to improve the indexing performance.
Partitioning Application Data During Indexing – Enables you to partition the application data using the Date Range option to improve indexing performance and index chunks of data based on date range.
Administering Elasticsearch – Elasticsearch provides several REST APIs that can be used to obtain details of a cluster or index in the PeopleSoft Application. Elasticsearch Interact is a user interface that enables you to choose a cluster and index level options on which you want to obtain information from the Elasticsearch Search Engine.
Monitoring Elasticsearch Using PeopleSoft Health Center – Monitoring and Diagnostic Dashboards provide insight into performance issues that may arise for a cluster and nodes within a cluster. Users cannot run tasks or make updates within the PeopleSoft Health Center.
Note: For SES customers upgrading to PeopleTools 8.56, you will have to manually move from SES to Elasticsearch. Live cut over is not an option because SES is not supported in PeopleTools 8.56.
PeopleTools Platform Support Enhancements (24:17)
PeopleSoft Deployment Packages – DPKs help automate creation, cloning, and maintenance of PeopleSoft Environments. With PeopleTools 8.56, Oracle will expand the support of DPKs to not only include Linux and MS Windows environments, but also to include Solaris and AIX. You can download DPKs for every PeopleTools 8.56 patch from MyOracleSupport for all four environments.
Microsoft Visual Studio C++ Redistributable Installed with PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.56 – Running PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.56 requires Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015. The packages install run-time components that are required to run C++ applications built using Visual Studio 2015, as is PeopleSoft PeopleTools. Because the redistributables have been packaged, automatic Microsoft Windows security updates are enabled to help keep your system secure.
PeopleSoft is here to stay! Oracle recently extended the lifetime support of PeopleSoft Applications Premier Support through at least December 2027. As mentioned, this is not the end of life date for PeopleSoft. Oracle does not intend to de-support or end investment in PeopleSoft. Incorporate a proven “Upgrade specific” Methodology that emphasizes strong Project Management utilizing tools that provide real-time visibility to the progress of “In-Scope” key project deliverables, and improves team effectiveness and efficiency throughout all project phases.
Engage key functional and technical project resources early to build excitement and momentum regarding your PeopleSoft upgrade journey. Initial Stakeholder involvement with setting project goals helps to convey the importance and leadership commitment to the upgrade effort.
Take advantage of the opportunity for business process review, evaluating existing functionality that is not being fully utilized as well as new release functionality for eliminatingcustomizations that are no longer necessary.

Last week Team Elire was able to attend Oracle CloudWorld in NYC. The team enjoyed a full day of customer focused keynotes and live demo sessions, as well as networking activities. Here’s a recap of what you missed!
The team found the Oracle Keynotes to be informative and data driven to show how the ecosystem is changing with the workforce becoming younger and more demanding, which is influencing companies buying habits. The global economy is growing, but not at the same rate in each region or country. IT Growth tends to follow GDP growth, but only 3% of GDP is IT related, and it’s mostly coming from China. Top Cloud companies like Oracle, Amazon, and SalesForce have experience 44% growth, while IT budgets are not growing. Executives are focusing on moving their IT budgets from maintenance to innovation, which is creating an appetite for cloud solutions. As much as 85% of CEO’s think their investment in Cloud will increase.
In terms of Cloud companies, Oracle is ahead of the curve with security and patches. From an HCM Cloud perspective, the focus for Oracle has been on the employee self-service framework, peer collaboration, and managers having real-time access to tools and analytics geared around employee data. Currently Hybrid environments are the norm (a combination of on-premise applications with some Oracle Cloud solutions), however, more customers are going to 100% Cloud as the application availability and maturity rises.
General Electric (GE) has taken their full financials and moved to the cloud with 22 modules total. Seven modules have went live in the US and Canada within four and a half months, with Phase two being 13 modules in five countries. Kraft Heinz is currently using on premise ERP and implementing Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service (PBCS).
Two case studies were also presented. The first was Irving Materials, a Midwest construction company was an existing Oracle 11i customer. They decided to move to cloud because of maintenance. They had a tough time handling patches and upgrading themselves, so moving to cloud was the right move for them – along with the flexibility needed for rapid growth through acquisitions. Prior to moving to cloud they needed 4-6 hours for running financials reports, now it only takes minutes.
The second case study was on Bluebird bio, a Gene Therapy Biopharma company out of Cambridge, MA. They chose Oracle to help scale, their global presence, user experience, budget, and quick implementation timeline. Bluebird started with Oracle HCM, PBCS, and then contracts. They were also able to integrate with lost of third party solutions like using ADP. After their initial implementations, they have also added most of the ERP suite excluding Accounts Receivable.
Implementation Success Tips
Successful clients shared their tips and tricks for having a successful adoption of Cloud technologies. The main points are:
Go Enterprise Where you can
Engage vendors early to interface with your third party applications
Phases, phases, phases
Change management is essential. Have a plan for your users
Leverage best practices
Leverage your Oracle relationships in addition to My Oracle Support
Utilize niche implementation partners rather than using one – utilize partners specialized in Contracts, HCM, etc.
Send users to online training after Go Live – start early and add additional training if needed

Our Oracle Applications Experts arrived on Sunday, and started the week off with a bang as our Director of Strategic Alliances, John D. Scott, presented with Janet Division, Vice President, Treasury, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage for the Treasury SIG Group. Sunday was jam packed getting Booth #3646 set up and attending the OpenWorld Partner Summit, where John and one of our Founding Partners, Brian Peterson, connected with Oracle Executives about our role as a Gold Level, Cloud Standard Oracle Partner.
Monday Morning the Elire Team was ready for Exhibition hours, as well as our second presentation of the conference, Turning Wells Fargo Treasury into World Class Operations. Elire Founding Partner, Grant Bernardy, and Janet Division, Wells Fargo, presented the success story of how Home Lending implemented Oracle’s PeopleSoft to support its payment activity, as well as outlined the software review process prior to choosing the application, along with implementation best practices. The session also discussed how Wells Fargo’s partners developed creative solutions to address real-time processing with scalable volumes at peak times.
Tuesday, our team spent the Day at Booth #3646, connecting with other PeopleSoft and Oracle applications users and professionals. Attendees who stopped by the Elire booth had a chance to win a Sonos PLAY:1 Speaker, as well as the chance to enter a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card if they connected with us on Facebook or LinkedIn. The team also had a busy evening at the ERP Central Happy Hour and Dedicated ERP Exhibition Hours, as well as with an Elire Sponsored Happy Hour at local bar and restaurant, Red Dog! A big thank you to those who joined us for free drinks and a delicious assortment of sliders, hand cut fries, prosciutto wrapped figs and avocado toast; we were so glad to have you!
Wednesday was the last day to connect with the Elire Team at a Booth #3646, and attendees kept our Subject Matter Experts Busy! After a full day of exhibiting and attending sessions, our team was PUMPED to see Gwen Stefani and Sting at the Oracle Appreciation Event at AT&T Park.
