Oracle Cloud Lease Management Implementation

Scope of the Project

Elire and Waste Management first connected via one of the key stakeholders who worked for Advanced Disposal, a client where Elire completed PeopleSoft work and implemented PeopleSoft Lease Administration. Waste Management acquired Advanced Disposal and continued the relationship with the key stakeholder on the Advanced Disposal projects. Elire’s Lease Admin expertise was the key reason Elire was selected for Waste Management’s Cloud Lease Management project. Waste Management needed Lease Management to comply with accounting standards and streamline their processes.

Elire was tasked with implementing the Lease Accounting module which was needed to help support the new Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) changes. In addition to implementing the Oracle Cloud Lease Accounting module, Elire integrated Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Project Portfolio Management, and General Ledger in Oracle Cloud Financials. Elire conducted system overview training for the client to make design decisions, configured Oracle Cloud Lease Accounting, identified required reports and developed spec docs, created system training materials/sessions, and supported with UAT and post-production support.

The Challenge

Right of Use (ROU) Balances were a challenge the Elire Team faced. As Waste Management is a publicly traded company, there was a need for validation for expenses during the midyear conversion. There was also a methodology difference between Oracle and Waste Management’s previous system. This affects the way numbers are presented.

AP integrations were another key challenge the Elire Team was able to overcome. The client was not able to bring in lease-related invoices into AP for processing. It was unknown that this version of the software (23C) did not include the ability to process AP invoices. This is something that Oracle is adding in version 23D, at which time Elire plans to assist the client to ensure it integrates correctly. Elire attempted to find a workaround which was not possible, but the solution will be found in the new version. Elire and the client learned about the need to know full understanding of the integration before starting as we thought the ability for AP to process invoices would be included in 23C.

Success Delivered

The Elire and Waste Management completed a successful implementation of Oracle Cloud Lease Administration with go-live on October 17th, 2023. Implementing Lease admin in Oracle Cloud allowed them to bring in these data as it related to their leases for them to streamline reporting and transactional processes in Oracle Cloud ERP. The Waste Management Team has improved the use of their Oracle Cloud system by being able to view and manage their leases, improve their business processes, and streamline reporting.
