Sava Senior Care

PeopleSoft HCM Update

SavaSeniorCare™ is one of the largest providers of skilled nursing, memory care, and rehabilitative services in the nation. The chain has nearly 200 nursing homes across the country across 22 states. The chain has approximately 25,000 beds in its facilities and is headquartered in Atlanta with operational offices in Houston.

Scope of the Project

SavaSeniorCare initially reached out to Elire in the fall of 2017 to gain a better understanding of Elire’s Success Delivered upgrade methodology. SavaSeniorCare engaged with Elire to perform an initial Upgrade Readiness Assessment in early 2018. Since this time, Elire has become SavaSeniorCare’s trusted advisor, leading to the successful upgrade of their PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 applications and subsequent PUM update efforts. SavaSeniorCare went live on PeopleSoft Human Capital Management 9.2 on December 9th, 2019. This successful upgrade project led by project team members from SavaSeniorCare and Elire introduced many new application features as well as optimizing existing processes and has already transformed the operations of the nation’s largest senior living providers in the country. This project followed Elire’s Success Delivered™ Upgrade Methodology incorporating the “Readiness” multi-phased approach to ensure project success. In order to set a strong continuous delivery (CDM) foundation, SavaSeniorCare performed their first “Get Current PUM” effort to update their PeopleSoft Human Capital Management 9.2 applications.  SavaSeniorCare’s PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 Get Current PUM Update provided the opportunity to pilot the proposed future state Continuous Delivery (CDM) methodology introduced by Elire during the PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 upgrade project. In addition to establishing this important go-forward strategy, Sava also took this opportunity to introduce new targeted application functionality related to Fluid Position Management, Workflow Delegation, Paysheet Loader enhancements, and reengineering of customizations using delivered PeopleTools capabilities (ex. Page Field Configurator, Forms, Drop Zones, and Page Composer).

The Challenge

The greatest challenge facing the SavaSeniorCare and Elire project team was internal resource capacity further compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the impact severity recognized by all senior living facilities across the country, many activities impacting the PeopleSoft HCM applications were necessary to make certain that proper facility staffing was in place in order to provide the resident care necessary while meeting all safety precautions. The impact to PeopleSoft HCM applications included the introduction of new pay codes to accommodate hazard pay increases. In summary, the PeopleSoft HCM Get Current PUM Update project had to closely monitor project scope such that the senior living facilities were not impacted by any new PUM introduced functionality.

Success Delivered

The SavaSeniorCare and Elire project team delivered success with an on-time and under budget rollout of PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 PUM 33 including select new application enhancements, reengineering of invasive customizations, and setting the foundation of a successful future state CDM strategy. The next large project effort slated to begin in 2021 is the upgrading of Sava’s PeopleSoft Financials applications from 9.0 to 9.2. SavaSeniorCare and Elire are committed to maintaining their strong partnership in order to successfully deliver this important upgrade effort.
