PeopleSoft 9.1 to 9.2 Upgrade
The City of Henderson is located in Clark County, Nevada. It is the second largest city in Nevada, after Las Vegas, with an estimated population of 280,811. The city is part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan area, which spans the entire Las Vegas Valley. Henderson has roughly 3,000 employees across 22 departments.
Elire was selected as the sole upgrade partner by the City of Henderson to lead the upgrade of their existing PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) and PeopleSoft Financials & Supply Chain (FSCM) applications from versions 9.1, PeopleTools 8.53 to versions 9.2, PeopleTools 8.55. Unlike prior PeopleSoft upgrades performed by the City of Henderson, this upgrade project provided the opportunity to re-evaluate existing customizations in order to better prepare the city for post 9.2 go-live Continuous Delivery (CDM) capabilities. Modules: Accounts Payable, Account Receivables, Billing, eProcurement, Purchasing, General Ledger, Commitment Control, Project Costing, Core HR, Payroll, Time & Labor.
Previous upgrades at Henderson focused almost solely on updating the technical aspects of their PeopleSoft system, as well as taking on required regulatory updates. Much of the functionality that Henderson used in their highly-customized 9.1 environment originated in pre-9.1 releases. Furthermore, Henderson prioritized adding new 9.2/ PT 8.55 functionality including Fluid navigation, WorkCenter capabilities, and Elasticsearch. Henderson wished to accomplish this while utilizing internal resources for key technical lead roles on the project that had limited familiarity with 9.2/ PT 8.55. Elire functional consultants led analysis workshops to fully understand existing customizations and applied industry leading best practices utilizing PeopleSoft 9.2 features and replacing customizations where possible.
Elire functional leads performed analysis workshops to fully understand existing customizations and applied industry-leading best practices to utilize PeopleSoft 9.2 new features as widely as possible. They also helped identify unnecessary and ineffective existing customizations, in particular redesigning a highly customized Time & Labor module. The Elire Project Manager handled full oversight functions, including detailed project status dashboard reporting through all phases of the project, and led the organization’s overall Change Management efforts such as phase kickoff sessions, testing, and training. Henderson business users consistently voiced their high level of comfort with the future system, primarily due to these efforts. Elire’s PeopleSoft Upgrader led the overall technical upgrade portions of the project, covering training internal System Administrator resources on the new PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) processes and providing overall test move oversight from the initial test phase through the move to production. Each City of Henderson employee interacts with their PeopleSoft HCM and FSCM systems on a weekly basis. The project successfully went live on schedule and under budget in August 2017, with leadership defining it as an overwhelming success.
