Stay In-the-Know: Migrating to Oracle Redwood

Get to Know the Oracle Redwood UI

(Updated 8/21/2024)

Navigating and harnessing the capabilities of the Oracle Redwood User Interface (UI) is something at the forefront of Cloud users’ minds. As technology advances, interfaces evolve to accommodate user needs more efficiently. The Oracle Redwood UI epitomizes this evolution, boasting intuitive navigation, streamlined workflows, and robust functionalities. It’s more than just a UI, Redwood user experience is a truly revolutionary visual, user friendly experience. In this post, we’ll provide an in-depth exploration of the Oracle Redwood UI, equipping users with valuable insights and practical strategies to optimize workflow and bolster productivity.

What is Oracle Redwood?

Oracle Redwood user experience stands as a contemporary approach to enhancing the user experience within the Oracle Cloud ecosystem. Redwood is not merely a visual makeover; it represents a comprehensive commitment to simplicity, modern aesthetics, and heightened productivity in enterprise software. The design principles of Redwood prioritize a sleek and visually appealing interface, making Oracle Cloud applications more accessible to users of varying expertise.

The initiative aims to empower users by presenting information in a clear, user-friendly manner that exceeds traditional interface expectations. With a focus on innovation and user-centricity, Oracle Redwood is made to redefine the landscape of user satisfaction. Redwood prioritizes a seamless and enjoyable experience for individuals navigating complex business analytics and managing intricate databases. Fortunately, enterprises of all sizes can integrate Oracle Redwood and take advantage of this modern-day enterprise software interface.

Migrating to Oracle Redwood UI

Switching to Oracle’s Redwood Experience brings a myriad of benefits as it transforms Oracle user interface and unlocks new capabilities within Oracle HCM Cloud. The Redwood theme provides a simplified and compact navigation system, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience. Offering features like Dynamic Tabs and Intelligent Performance Management (IPM) Insights, users gain a distinct advantage through enhanced data management and effective data insights.

With each quarterly release, more and more pages in Oracle Cloud can now be switched to the Redwood UI. Combing over each quarterly release is the best and easiest way to see which new pages are taking advantage of the Redwood UI.

As far as actually implementing the Oracle Redwood UI, there isn’t exactly a need to “migrate” your Cloud application to Redwood, but rather taking advantage of Redwood is more so a matter of turning on Redwood capabilities for the specific pages it is available on. Existing customers may need to complete additional tests and may face some trial and error when changing pages over to Redwood to ensure all data and fields are appropriately populated. For more information on which pages are Redwood enabled, check out this document from the Oracle Community detailing all pages with Redwood capabilities.

Oracle Redwood Update Release Schedule

All products within the Oracle Cloud suite (HCM, SCM, CX, and ERP) will make the migration to Oracle with 25C being the primary push to go live on Redwood. HCM and Self-Service Procurement (SSP) have already taken steps toward quickly delivering these exciting new capabilities for customers. For Cloud customers, this means that customers should have completed their uptake of the Redwood pages before they receive 25C in their production pod. For HCM, this 25C date includes all pages – those used by employees, managers, and HR professionals/specialists – within Recruiting, Global HR, Talent, Absence, Benefits, and Payroll. There are a few exceptions to the 25C uptake schedule, please see the timeline below to note where certain modules differ from the 25C alignment.

25C Oracle Redwood timeline

The coming updates introduce a default Oracle theme and two customizable appearance options, offering users the flexibility to tailor their redwood experience with custom Light and Dark themes. Although the updated Redwood Experience does offer a new and more visually appealing aesthetic, that’s not the key user benefit. The 2024 Redwood update is a strategic move towards a more efficient, user-friendly, and feature-rich Cloud environment.

It’s worth noting that users who choose not to enable the Redwood Experience manually may begin to see their existing themes start to be phased out, and the transition to the Redwood UI pages will be automatically implemented. There isn’t a specific date yet for this mandatory transition, but Oracle’s phased approach, while mandatory, is carefully designed to minimize disruptions for both customers and partners.

By adopting the Redwood Experience, organizations not only stay ahead of the impending changes but also position themselves to take full advantage of the evolving features and enhancements integrated into the release. Oracle Redwood Phased Approach

The implementation of Oracle Redwood within Oracle Utilities Application Framework follows a well-orchestrated phased approach to ensure manageability for customers and partners. The initial phase introduces style changes and basic Redwood features, including a new visual appearance, Unified Search, improved personalization, Contextual Insights, and other exclusive features.

Subsequent phases involve engine changes to enhance performance, the adoption of Redwood templates for a more consistent user experience, and the introduction of exciting new technologies. Oracle ensures a transparent rollout, with each release minimizing cost impacts on customers and aiming for a smooth transition to the Redwood interface. Organizations implementing the Redwood Experience are strongly encouraged to fully leverage its capabilities to unlock a more efficient and modern platform.
