Oracle Cloud HCM Release Update 24D Recap

24D Cloud Release Notes

Key Features and Highlights Oracle Cloud Users Should Know

Oracle’s 24D release introduces a small-scale release update with several new features focused on improving skills management, specifically for those leveraging the Dynamic Skills framework.  This update introduces multi-language support for administering and maintaining skills in the Item Catalog, alongside enhanced search functionalities within the Skills Center. While the impact for users is minimal, these changes bring valuable flexibility and improved user experience for managing skills, especially for customers who are new to the Dynamic Skills service. Browse the highlights and restrictions for this release below.

Administer and Maintain Skills in the Item Catalog with Multi-Language Support

In 24D, this feature empowers administrators to manage skills across various languages, allowing for more global and inclusive skills management within the Item Catalog. However, there are several important restrictions and conditions for its use. Only customers who haven’t deployed Dynamic Skills in previous releases and don’t have any transactions in the Skills Center-subscribed content section are able to utilize this feature. It’s also worth noting that currently, content sections cannot have LinkedIn profile imports enabled, though this functionality is slated for a future release.

For Item Catalog and Skills Library Management, you can add or remove an active item catalog or skills library from the Skills Center content section, provided the following conditions are met:

  • If using AI for skills suggestions: At least one active skills catalog must be associated with the Skills Center content section
  • If not using AI for skills suggestions: At least one active item catalog must be associated with the Skills Center content section

Possible Restrictions

There are also certain modules in Oracle HCM Cloud that face restrictions on subscribing to the Skills Center content section. In Recruiting for instance, users cannot subscribe to the Skills Center content section. For Journeys and Learning Outcomes, users can only subscribe if operating on Redwood UI. Customers who don’t meet these criteria in this release will receive an upgrade path in a subsequent release.

It’s also worth noting that Dynamic Skills cannot be used in HCM environments on US government pods, and it is not available to organizations within the healthcare sector (including clinical services, healthcare manufacturing, and life sciences).

Customizable Skills Library

In addition to using the predefined Oracle Dynamic Skills Seed Library, administrators can create their own skills libraries by associating one or more skills catalogs with the Skills Center content section. While the predefined skills catalog can be disabled, it cannot be edited or deleted. For easier administration, Oracle suggests maintaining a maximum of two skills catalogs at any given time.

Multi-Language Display

During transactions, the application displays skills in the user’s selected session language for all item catalogs associated with the Skills Center content section. This helps ensure a seamless user experience across global teams.

If the appropriate skill is not found in the catalog, users can enter the skill as free-form text. These entries can be curated by an item catalog administrator and added to the official catalog as necessary.

Improved Experience for Searching and Adding Skills in the Skills Center

The 24D release also introduces significant enhancements to the search functionality within the Skills Center. Whether Skills AI is enabled or not, users can benefit from an improved experience when searching for and adding skills to their profiles. This enhancement promises quicker, more accurate search results, simplifying the process of skills management.

Concluding Thoughts

While this update is relatively minor, its features offer important capabilities for new users and pave the way for future updates. Organizations can expect a smoother skills management experience, especially with the introduction of multi-language support and improved search functionalities.

For those already using Oracle Dynamic Skills, the coming updates will offer a clear upgrade path, allowing them to take advantage of the new features introduced in this release. Until then, organizations should evaluate their current use of Dynamic Skills and plan accordingly based on these latest changes.
