Migrating PeopleSoft to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

For companies not yet ready to make the move to Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) due to deep customization, integration, or control requirements, OCI is the solution.

Migrating from an on-premise solution to Oracle Cloud is a move many organizations have already made or are planning on making. It’s estimated that by 2022, 28% of all IT budgets will be spent on Cloud technology. Planning and executing a PeopleSoft migration to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is becoming an essential consideration for all kinds of organizations.

PeopleSoft on any OS platform can now run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Customers on PeopleSoft 9.2, PeopleTools release 8.55, and Oracle Database 12c can take advantage of the automated ‘lift-and-shift’ deployment and one-touch provisioning capabilities in PeopleSoft Cloud Manager. PeopleSoft can also be migrated manually to provide more flexibility and allow for pre-9.2 releases and pre-PeopleTools 8.55 releases to be migrated when combined with a PS 9.2 application upgrade.

The key drivers of moving to OCI are the practical and economic benefits that migrating to OCI offers. For companies not yet ready to make the move to Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) due to deep customization, integration, or control requirements, OCI is the solution.

More than simply keeping up with the trend toward Cloud, a migration to OCI offers significant cost savings. Due to the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) nature of OCI, once migrated PeopleSoft offers more flexibility, reliability, and delivers higher performance at a lower cost than deployments running on-premise. Oracle estimates that the total cost of ownership (TCO) of this solution can be 38% less than running PeopleSoft on-premises and 52% less than running on another cloud solution. These figures are based on the significant savings from eliminating upfront hardware, ongoing facilities, IT administration, and support costs as well as Oracle’s significant cost advantages for Block Volumes and Database storage.

Performance benefits shouldn’t go unnoticed either. Oracle’s unique non-oversubscribed networks and single-tenant offerings like bare metal compute and Exadata ensure consistent performance. Many of Oracle’s services run cheaper and you can also bring existing database licenses to Oracle’s cloud, allowing for better performance and additional cost savings.

PeopleSoft on cloud infrastructure allows you to maintain the full control you want to keep with your ERP without all the annoying SaaS constraints. Plus you instantly speed up your environment builds due to faster provisioning capabilities. PeopleSoft will remain part of your corporate network allowing you to maintain all integrations with the rest of your mission critical systems.
