Hyperion Planning Optimization – Multi-Scenario Planning for Consumer Products Company
A prominent Consumer Products company engaged Elire to optimize their Oracle Hyperion Planning application with multi-scenario planning capabilities. Their existing system, inherited through an acquisition, lacked sufficient documentation and only supported quarterly forecasting. This limitation required time-consuming manual adjustments to complete the annual budget, creating inefficiencies and increasing the risk of errors.
Elire addressed these challenges by establishing two distinct planning tracks – one for quarterly forecasting and another for annual budgeting. By designing separate task lists, input forms, and calculations for each scenario, the team ensured clarity and usability for the finance team. Leveraging substitution variables, Elire enabled seamless management of both tracks concurrently, improving the flexibility and efficiency of the company’s financial planning process.
The Consumer Products company’s primary challenge was enabling multi-scenario planning without disrupting existing workflows. Elire carefully adjusted forms, rules, and allocation settings within Oracle Hyperion Planning and Budgeting to accommodate concurrent scenario inputs.
To streamline operations, the team separated the quarterly forecast and annual budget tracks into distinct workflows, eliminating the need for manual adjustments or data manipulation. This solution ensured continuity in daily operations while introducing a new layer of functionality that aligned seamlessly with existing processes.
Additionally, Elire provided concise, easy-to-follow documentation for system administrators to support smooth ongoing maintenance. This ensured the team could fully leverage the enhanced system without requiring extensive external support.
Initially, the project considered using User Variables for the scenario dimension to allow users to toggle between scenarios on existing forms, minimizing administrative overhead. This approach was included in the original scope to avoid creating duplicate forms and business rules. However, after extensive design sessions, the Consumer Products Company team opted for a simpler solution—creating copies of existing input forms updated with substitution variables for multi-scenario planning. This method aligned with their goal of reducing confusion and ensuring a smoother transition by leveraging familiar forms and processes.
Elire successfully delivered the multi-scenario planning functionality on time and within budget in September of 2024. The enhancements empowered the company’s FP&A team to simultaneously manage quarterly forecasts and annual budgets. This significant improvement streamlined their financial planning process, reduced manual workloads, and improved data accuracy and visibility.
By eliminating the need for manual data manipulation and leveraging distinct workflows, the Consumer Products company can now launch forecast and budget cycles much faster. The enhancements also provided immediate efficiency gains, allowing the finance team to focus on strategic initiatives rather than manual data tasks.
Elire’s deep expertise in Oracle Hyperion Planning ensured a seamless transition to enhanced functionality. Focused configuration efforts, coupled with extensive testing, minimized disruption during implementation and delivered lasting value.
This Consumer Products company is a leader in household goods and offers iconic brands that simplify daily tasks like food preparation and cleanup. The company serves both U.S. and international markets with trusted, innovative products designed for convenience and reliability.
