Yum! Brands Talent Zone
ORACLE CLOUD TALENT ZONE IMPLEMENTATION
YUM! Brands, Inc., incorporated in 1997, is a quick service restaurant (QSR) with over 34,000 units in more than 100 countries and territories. Through the four concepts of KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and WingSteet, YUM develops, operates, franchises, and licenses a worldwide system of restaurants, which prepare, package, and sell a menu of food items. In 2016, Yum! Brands generated more than $6.4 billion in total revenue.
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT
The goal of the project was to convert all global, non-us paid above store employees from PeopleSoft 9.2 and 8.9 instances to an already live cloud instance, including all historical records for work relationship, assignment, salary and profile. The team had to configure Core HR to support additional global employees, as well as configure Talent Profile to support Performance, Career Planning, Succession Planning, and Global Mobility Programs. Workforce Compensation also had to be configured to support year end pay for performance process. Performance is reviewed and awards for Merit, Lump Sum, Adjustment, Promotion, Bonus, and Stock are issued in two separate processes for Global Non-US Paid and US Paid employees.
The team faced many challenges considering the project was an "implementation within an implementation within an upgrade." Yum's wave 1 implementation of Oracle Cloud was going live as this project was going through System Integration Testing (SIT), then subsequently production upgraded to R12 as User Acceptance Testing (UAT) was in full swing. This took a lot of coordination between various groups as well as strong environment and testing strategy. Challenges also included adding global employees (foreign addresses, currencies, characters, and security settings) that presented their own unique challenges that differ from a US only population during conversion. A custom reporting hierarchy, custom compensation statements, and custom report templates to include front end data security requirements all added to the complexity of the project.
The Elire team added approximately 1,555 new workers, 9,000+ current and historical assignment rows, 5,500+ salary records from Yum! PeopleSoft 9.2 instance. 2,875 talent profiles were converted from both 9.2 and 8.8 PeopleSoft instances. The team successfully configured:
- descriptive and extensible flexfields, grades, grade rates, salary basis, elements, and departments for global business units
- content types, items, rating models, lookups, and profile types for Talent Profiles
- Only 5 compensation plans for both Global and US populations for administering and awarding performance through Merit, Lump Sum, Adjustment, Promotion increases as well as cash bonus and stock awards
The Elire team also converted 10 years of historical stock awards and implemented 30 fast formulas. Over 15 custom reports and analytics (including OTBI, BIP, and Infolets) were developed, and 46 custom role and data base security requirements were implemented.
